NCSCA has represented the needs of students, school counselors, and the school counseling profession in North Carolina for over 40 years. It is also the North Carolina school counselor’s voice in the American School Counselor Association (ASCA)

Types of Memberships


There are four different types of membership:

  • Professional    $35.00

  • Student          $20.00

  • Retired           $20.00

  • Affiliate           $35.00

  • Business         $100.00

Requirements for Membership

Professional: The member must hold a master's degree conferred by a graduate school accredited by a state department of education or a recognized accrediting association. The member must also hold a valid School Counselor License from the North Carolina Department of Instruction.

Student*: The member must be a certified graduate student enrolled in at least half-time (6 hours) in a course of study designed to prepare for guidance/counseling work. A member must be certified by his/her major professor as meeting this requirement.

*Licensed school counselors are not entitled to student membership.

Retired: The member must be a retired school counselor.

Affiliate: An individual or organization who does not meet any of the above criteria and who is interested in the profession of school counseling may be granted an affiliate status upon review of the Executive Board.

It is not necessary to join any other association to join NCSCA.
