State Licensure

My NC Licensure is up for renewal this summer.  Does anyone know the CEU requirements for K-12 School counselors?  Am I required to do literacy credits?  The NCDPI licensure website does not specify renewal requirements for school counselors.

Good day.  I double checked with our DPI consultant, Cynthia Floyd, and her response is as follows:

School counselors are defined in legislation as grouped with "Teachers."  So, unless legislation states otherwise, school counselors have to follow legislation that states "teachers," which means they do have to follow the literacy requirement (unless in the future the legislators revise the law to exempt them). The NCDPI Licensure web page regarding renewing does include a statement above the CEU requirements chart stating "The definition of teacher includes instructional support personnel."  You can find detailed explanation in the November 2016 NCDPI School Counseling newsletter on the Wiki.

Thanks for your question. I hope this helps.
